Rippin' Mad Again

Last week a letter came and there was no return address. I thought that's odd. Who would send a letter without a return address? My wife opens the mail. It works better that way.

About the middle of the afternoon my wife stomped up to me outside and said, "Come." It was the tone of voice which indicates super trouble.

She had opened the letter and asked me to look at it. It was a speeding ticket! It was a speeding ticket that I picked up from photo radar. Now I became angry and upset. I was mad at myself for speeding and getting a ticket. I was upset because there was no warning. Just a letter that says you're a bad guy.

Yes, they caught me going 67 kmh in a 50 kmh zone.

Now I'm a life long speeder. My wife is constantly after me to slow down. So I admit that I deserved what I got. But everybody hates to get a speeding ticket. Now am I going to get a couple more tickets in the mail in the next few days as they say bad things come in threes? I hope not.

By the way this is the first speeding ticket I ever got. Maybe I shouldn't say this.

    I have definitely slowed down.

So do you like speeding tickets any more than I do?

  1. from a photo camera? that would make me mad. at least give me an officer to admit my speeding to that can write me a ticket.

    1. Yes, I'd rather have it personal and more of a chance to get out of it.

  2. Heck, no! The last one I got, I went to court and they said if I didn't have another one within a year, it would be erased. And so it was. :-)

  3. Ooof...speeding tickets are awful! I've only gotten one in my life many years ago, and I swore it would be the last. So far, so good... I hope this is the only one you get!

  5. Sorry, but I don't speed and never got a ticket. You deserved the ticket - end of story. I love it that "drones" are passing out tickets. haha I have a friend that has a very heavy foot and she speeds everywhere all the time and has never got a ticket. I lecture her on the impacts of hitting someone or a dog or cat or anything when she is speeding, but she never listens. I hope she gets caught as she thinks its a big joke.Remember "the tone of the voice that indicated Big Trouble" - you don't want that more than once, Eh. ha,ha

    1. Hey, I thought you were on my side! What's going on here? I do agree 100% with you. Speed limits are for many good reasons.

    1. That would really be embarrassing. My worst moment on the bus is when we hit a dear many students were very upset.

    1. There's a lot of territory to cover here so there's not much traffic control presence.

  8. Yes there are cameras everywhere and warning signs along the roads here. So so far we had no ticket. I hardly dare to write it down. I feel I shouldn't, it is asking for troubles.

  9. Oh, Red! Lol! Which bothers you more? The ticket or the lecture?!

  10. We only got one once and in Vermont! It was an ambush. It was 7 AM on a Sunday in an area where the speed limit changed every five miles or so. Anyhow, I would not have minded paying it if the policeman had not been so rude.

    1. We have a mish mash of speed zones here too. Some people have not tact whatsoever.

  11. I got my first speeding ticket a few years ago coming back to work from dental work. It was raining and I was speeding coming up on a school zone but was slowing down. The trooper gave me a ticket even with tears and a swollen mouth. I got out of it in court by it being my first and I set my cruise after that. Sorry about the ticket.

    1. Traffic cops can pick the very worst time to give out tickets.

  12. Only a nut would admit to liking speeding tickets. I've gotten a few and I consider myself a "poky" driver. I usually get caught on freeways where traffic slows quickly at a construction sight.

  13. I'm sorry Red but this is one of my pet subjects. I have seen the results of speeding. I have seen the lives destroyed (including that of the driver) when a child runs in front of a speeding car. A speeding ticket and an increase in your insurance (because you will, of course, advise your insurance company or they may deny refuse to pay up if you have an accident if you don't) are a very small price to pay. We all speed occasionally some wittingly and some by mistake - often a dangerous lapse of concentration - but when the accident happens then .... But , of course, accidents only happen to other people.

    1. I agree with you 100% . Here the roads are absolutely straight and little traffic. But speeding is still dangerous.

  14. Frustrating and costly for sure but you're in good shape if this is your first ever. Frank got his first one in the winter. Just think of how many you got away with. ;)

  15. Don't get me going on those! I had one in 1981 and the other in 2014. The latter was in Surrey. I was so angry. I feel for you!

  16. oh Red. Do you really have red hair. My dad did. And his name was Arthur but his nickname was Red. You said your a easy going kind of guy. Looks like your expressing yourself f with a heavy leaded foot speeding. When Mother Hen comes out and calls you. Come. You better listen to her. A ticket is a big sum of money to have to pay out. I think lecture. Hmmmm you better listen. Next time you get chased by the broom.

Don't dwell on threes. better days ahead. Think positive.

    1. I don't have red hair. the "Red" comes from the first part of my town's name...Red Deer. I'm usually not superstitious.

  17. Nobody likes speeding tickets and I have only gotten one in my 50 some years of driving. I do then to push the speed limit by about 5 miles...but hubby does tend to get them whenever we travel somewhere!

  18. I've gotten one speeding ticket in my entire driving life..for going 52 in a 45. So maybe you will only get the one. I still swear that people driving too slow cause more accidents than people who drive faster. I can't imagine getting a ticket in the mail from one of those photo deals..I think just the idea would upset me. Like a spy out there or something.

  19. That's terrible! Especially since you have never had a speeding ticket before. I've never had one either. I'm sorry.

  20. Knock on wood...I have never had one...but I am a speedy old lady...so I deserve one:)

  21. Art has gotten one speeding ticket that I know of. I haven't gotten speeding tickets, but I've gotten a couple of others when I got into accidents. I'm not a good driver.
