When You Fly, Don't Forget the Airplane

Yesterday I took a flight and I didn't have an airplane. I didn't even have a parachute like DJan

So my last post was flying when the airplane iced up. Conveniently yesterday, I took a another flight! I fell down the stairs!

I survived the fall and the biggest wound was my pride. I was very fortunate and other than stretching a few things I had no injury.

I was taking groceries downstairs so that they could be put away. I picked up a plastic pail that had a unattached lid  and a little box on top of the lid. This was a delicate balancing act. So with a bag of groceries in my right hand and the pail in my left hand I had to pivot on a step and then go down the stairs. Sounds simple, but I didn't make it. My feet were slower than a lot of other things.

I fell from about 2/3 s up the stairs and went to the bottom and landed on the bread and some tin cans. The bread was a mess and the cans were badly bent out of shape. My micro manager was not too happy. She came to the top of the stairs to find out what all the noise was. Then she got in a huff about the mess I made. Somehow there were a lot of bread crumbs spread on the floor and she didn't like that!.

So that's not a bad trick for a 74 year old. If you want my advice a 74 year old shouldn't even risk falling on the floor.

So of course, here's for a safe 2014.

  4. That is bad, you were lucky with not harming yourself. I tumbled down the stairs myself a few months ago. With the laundry in my arms I missed the last step of a stair I go up and down for more then 30 years. Lucky I only had bruises. I am more careful now, always one hand at the handrail.

    1. My favorite saying is that if I just fell on the level floor I could hurt myself. I know that at my age I am somewhat fragile.

  5. I'm sorry, but I was imagining the look on Micro Managers face and laughed, when I should have thought what a nasty tumble, but then you didn't hurt yourself. Feed the bread to sweet birds and open dented cans first. You might even be able to boast that you may just be the first to create such an event at your ripe age, not hurt yourself, but still had a somewhat crummy? situation, eh. Happy Safety to you in 2014 :)

    1. Crummy situation? Good one! The cans will be looked after quickly. I can eat squashed bread. Maybe a bread pudding or two would get rid of some of it.

    1. I guess there are priorities. I came out with the least damage. Then consider the bread and then the micro manager.

  15. Oh heavens Red. Read tomorrow's post before this one and didn't even realise how lucky you'd been. Go easy and take care during 2014 (and after for that matter!).

  16. Glad your pride is all that was hurt, along with a few other little things. I'll be you've got some bruises, though. I am glad you are all right. A parachute doesn't do much good in a flight like that one, Red. :-)

    1. I was fortunate as I was fine the next day. Yep, I know parachutes don't work well in tight situations.

  18. I am so glad you didn't hurt yourself too much (other than your pride!) If it makes you feel better, Gordon is 45 and falls all the time. Last winter he landed on two cartons of milk in a shopping bag, which cushioned his fall but did nothing good for the milk. Another winter he landed on his laptop, cracking the cover (but the computer still worked.)

    Ouch! Glad you are okay.
