What a Blast!

We had a very serious introduction to winter here this weekend. Light snow started falling about 10:00 AM Sat.  By 3:00 PM heavy wet snow was falling. We came home around 4 and shoveled before we went in the house. We shoveled again about 6:30 PM. I should have shoveled about 8 or 9. It snowed very heavily all night. Sun morning I started shoveling the wet snow. It was brutal. A neighbor across the street rescued me when he brought his snow blower over and  finished the job for me.

We got about 30 cm (12 in.) of snow. For us that us a major snow fall. Most of our snowfalls are an inch or two.

So we are ready for a white Christmas!

The tree is the same. The photo on the bottom was taken at night and the one on the top in the day.

Lilac at night full of snow.

My little birch with street light glare behind it.

There's a mugo pine under there!

Snow sculpture on the side of a car.

A heavily loaded bird feeder.

A huge spruce branch across the alley
So this storm was a real blast! Usually I send my snow to Minnesota to Far Side of Fifty. This time it's not going to Minnesota as it seems to die out around the Alberta/Saskatchewan border.

Oh, I didn't learn anything about taking pictures of snow at the night. I did get some snowflakes!

    1. I have never been beat before by snow shoveling. I was completely pooped before being half finished. I tried the night shots but I need more camera and more smarts.

  2. Twelve inches!!! Red the snow I've had for the past three years wouldn't total that much I don't think.
Glad to hear your neighbor helped you out. Heavy wet snow is the dangerous kind to shovel. I say send me some but it's not cold enough here.
I do like the first night shot with the snow flakes everywhere - Christmas card potential.

    1. Sometimes we don't get 12 inches in a whole winter either! Shoveling snow won't kill me . I don't have problems that way. It just exhausted me.

  4. First question - did you get your cross country skies out? Second - how come you haven't bought a snowblower? The snow on the trees is quite pretty and I like the evening shot. Imagine, the leaves are still on the trees too. You know what that means Red - the warm weather will come once again and melt it all away before winter sets in.....maybe. ha,ha

    1. The cross country skis are half waxed. We usually don't get enough snow to bother with a snow blower. If this had been dry winter snow it would have been no problem. All our leaves are gone. I think this is here to stay.

    1. We just couldn't quite get it to go your way. It seemed to lose it's energy in western Sask.

    1. We never even send a snowflake your way. Our weather slides south to Minnesota. You get your nasty lows from the Atlantic.

    1. The snow was beautiful as it hung on the trees. The wind soon will take care of it and it will be gone.

  9. This is a lot of snow for the first snowfall! What will come next? So sad for the red tree, all gone under the snow.

    1. We usually don't get heavy snow storms. This snow will soon blow off the tree. It's a mountain ash and the leaves have dropped. The berries stay on all year.

  10. Seems early to me to have that much snow. You reminded me of Colorado winters when we'd have three feet! I don't miss it, Red. :-)
